About Diabetes SAWe’re a not-for-profit, member-based organisation committed to reducing the risk and impact of diabetes across South Australia through advocacy, prevention, management and research. Thanks to the generosity of our members and more recently the estate of Ms Sieglinde Hannelore Darsow, Diabetes SA has supported 13 leading Australian researchers across four previous funding rounds of the Research Grants Program. In 2026, the Association continues this commitment through a fifth round of funding offering $250,000 and bringing Diabetes SA’s total investment in outstanding Australian research to $1,320,750. |
Grant rounds are announced on our website and typically involve a five-stage process:

Successful applicants will be required to sign a Research Services Agreement with Diabetes SA. This agreement will set out the terms and conditions of the 2026 Grant Program and govern reporting milestones and financial payments.
Funding for a two-year grant will be paid in four equal instalments and upon the provision of a tax invoice – i.e. upon execution of the agreement and at 6, 12 and 18 months after execution of the agreement. Funding for a one-year grant will be paid in two equal instalments upon the provision of a tax invoice – i.e. upon execution of the agreement and at 6 months after execution of the agreement.
Payment of funds may be withheld if reporting requirements are not meet as per agreed deliverables in the executed agreement. All funds must be acquitted as part of the final report (unless arranged otherwise by writing to Diabetes SA to request and extension). Any funds that are unspent or uncommitted at the end of the grant period must be returned to Diabetes SA.
