SAPOL Staff Diabetes Support
If you have been diagnosed with Diabetes the National Diabetes Services Scheme (NDSS) run by The Australian Government is committed to helping people with diabetes and their families live well.
Diabetes SA is proudly the health professional organisation who provides the face to face and online programs for South Australians.
Diabetes SA strongly encourages those living with Diabetes to register and participate in the fantastic programs delivered right across SA, regional, remote, metropolitan and peri-urban locations near you!
There is evidence that the earlier you register once you are diagnosed and commence interactions with the NDSS programs and services the better your diabetes will be controlled and complications can be delayed such as damage to your sight, hearing, ability for wounds to heal, heart and kidney function.
Registration only needs to happen once by completing the following steps:
Product subsidies
Subsidies through your local pharmacist can be obtained including blood glucose strips, urine monitor strips, insulin pump consumables (for type 1), continuous glucose monitors (type 1 or eligible groups) and fully subsidised insulin syringes and pen-needles if needing insulin therapy
Programs
You can access a range of free diabetes programs that empower you to make informed choices and manage your diabetes confidently, with support from your health care team
The NDSS diabetes programs cover topics including diabetes management and care, food and nutrition, physical activity, mental health and devices and technology and are available in a range of formats to suit your needs.

Face to Face: Take the guesswork out of diabetes with group programs run by health professionals. A great opportunity to ask questions about your diabetes and meet other people with diabetes.
Online programs: Improve your diabetes knowledge with online live programs run by health professionals. Time is given at the end for you to ask questions about your diabetes.

Type 2 Diabetes and Me
These short modules will help you learn the basics of living with type 2 diabetes.
10 short modules 10-15 minutes each
Carb Counting
These short modules will teach you how to recognise and count carbohydrates (carbs), to help in managing your diabetes
11 short modules 15-20 min each
Baby Steps
This program helps women who have had gestational diabetes to reduce their risk of type 2 diabetes. It includes short modules, activity and health tracking, goal setting and a community forum.
MyDESMOND
This program helps you to confidently manage your type 2 diabetes day-to-day. It includes short modules, activity and health tracking, goal setting and a community forum.

This free online program is designed for people living with type 1 or type 2 diabetes who want to become more active but aren’t sure where to begin
