Dexcom G6 to Dexcom G7

Upgrade or switch from Dexcom G6 by September 30th

What’s Happening?
Upgrade or switch from Dexcom G6 by September 30, 2026.
From September 30, 2026, the Dexcom G6 will no longer be available for sale or through National Diabetes Services Scheme (NDSS). Product availability beyond this date may not be guaranteed. In the meantime, we’ll continue to support the Dexcom G6 app to give you ample time to make the switch.
For further information on the transition of the Dexcom G6 to G7, please visit the Dexcom Australia website.

Why is it happening?
As with all previous generations of diabetes technology, older hardware is retired as technology and manufacturing improve. The Dexcom G6 is being phased out to focus on bringing Australians the latest technology, care, comfort and connectivity.

What is the difference between Dexcom G6 and Dexcom G7?

  • All-in-one design: The G7 combines the sensor and transmitter into one single disposable unit. This a change from the reusable G6 transmitter.
  • Smaller size: The G7 is 60% smaller and more discreet under clothing.
  • Faster Warm up: The G7 takes 30 minutes to warm up in comparison to the two hour warm up time experienced with the G6.
  • What’s in the box: The Dexcom G7 box contains only one ‘all-in-one’ CGM, whereas the Dexcom G6 had three sensors per box and a separate transmitter.

IMPORTANT: Dexcom G7 will be individually packaged, make sure you order three G7 boxes to receive three devices (images included below for reference: Dexcom G6 packaging left, Dexcom G7 Packaging right).

Do I have to do anything?
If you are transitioning from the G6 to the G7
NDSS registrants currently using Dexcom G6 will be automatically updated to Dexcom G7 by 30 September 2026. This means you do not need to complete an update form or visit your healthcare professional solely to update your NDSS access to Dexcom G7. However, you will need to delete the Dexcom G6 app from your phone and install the Dexcom G7 app from the Apple App store or Google Play Store. You will then need to log in using your existing Dexcom credentials.

IMPORTANT: If you are using an insulin pump as part of an integrated automated insulin delivery system, check your specific pump firmware and software requirements before switching, as your pump may need a software update to connect the new Dexcom  G7.

If you are concerned about the change or looking to discuss CGM options, please reach out to your Diabetes Educator or Endocrinologist or book an appointment with a Diabetes SA Credentialled Diabetes Educator, for a 15 minute change appointment or a 30 minute Tech Check appointment.

If you choose a different CGM device, your healthcare professional will work with you to update your technology and change your ordering profile in the NDSS system
