Latest edition (February 2020 – May 2020)

Changing the future through research

The cover of this edition features our amazing member Clo, who’s life mantra is that a positive attitude is everything. This attitude, combined with her active lifestyle inspired the feature story on page 21.

We are also pleased to introduce you to Heath Pillen and Professor Paul Ward, two recipients of the inaugural 2018 Diabetes SA Research Grant Program. We encourage you to go to page 10 and read some of their research findings and then, learn all about a day in the life of a researcher…fascinating!

The importance of research into diabetes can never be underestimated because through research, we can change the future. We are proud to announce that the second round of funding through the Diabetes SA Research Grants Program will see $300,000 distributed to successful recipients. An esteemed panel of five have the task of selecting the worthy recipients from the 18 applications received. The Research Grants Program is made possible through the generosity of our members and donors so we encourage you to donate to the Research Appeal through our website. Every dollar makes a difference to everyone living with diabetes.

Our dedicated Research and Development team have been working tirelessly on programs in the areas of diabetes prevention, detection and management, and we thought you might like to know a bit more about the team making such a difference. Head to page 14 to see their smiling faces and read about what they are working on.

At Diabetes SA we love to celebrate member achievements! On page 9 you will get to meet and share the story of our member Ian Smith who is a recent recipient of the Kellion Victory medal for living with type 1 diabetes for an epic 75 years. Congratulations to Ian and all our recipients. You are an inspiration to us all.
