World Diabetes Day 2023

World Diabetes Day is marked each year on November 14. The International Diabetes Federation sets the theme for the World Diabetes Day campaign. The overarching theme for 2021 – 23 has been Access to Diabetes Care with a focus on increasing access to diabetes education to support people to live well with diabetes.

2023 marks the final year of this theme and has a specific focus on prevention of type 2 diabetes and diabetes-related complications. The aim is to highlight the importance of early diagnosis and treatment to prevent and delay potentially serious health outcomes.

Whether you’re living with, or at risk of, diabetes our team are here to support you.

Check your risk of type 2 diabetes

In South Australia it is estimated there are 180,000 people living with pre-diabetes or undiagnosed type 2 diabetes. As well as supporting those living with diabetes, Diabetes SA has a focus on diabetes prevention and detection.

Get education and support to live well with diabetes

South Australia has the highest rates of diabetes in Australia, with 6.8% of the population diagnosed with diabetes compared to 5.7% nationally.

For people living with diabetes, the annual cycle of care provides a guide to the regular checks recommended to assist in preventing or delaying diabetes complications, as well as early diagnosis and management if they do occur, to support optimal health outcomes.

Take the Pledge to End Diabetes Stigma

4 in 5 people with diabetes have experienced diabetes stigma.

Stigma can impact on self-care and the social and professional lives of people living with diabetes, and can lead to poorer emotional and physical health outcomes.

This World Diabetes Day, we are joining organisations and individuals from around the world and taking the pledge to end diabetes stigma. Keep an eye on our website and social media for more on this over the coming months.
