Credentialled Diabetes Educator

Jane's role at Diabetes SA is to provide well-resourced, evidence based information to health professionals and to people living with diabetes in the way of 1-on-1 consultations, group education, demonstrations, phone consultations, workshops and presentations.

Jane has been a CDE since 2006 with a primary discipline of General Registered Nursing. After training at RAH and Hampstead Centre Jane moved back to her home town of Mannum to work as a Registered Nurse in the Mannum Medical Centre and Mannum District Hospital. Over the next 30 years she gained experience in cardiology, community, diabetes education, emergency, gerontology, medical, rehabilitation, rural, culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) populations, practice nursing and running exercise classes.

Jane has had a personal experience with gestational diabetes, considers herself and her family at risk of developing diabetes in the future. This provides motivation to continually learn about the latest developments in diabetes management and apply them to everyday life. In September 2019 she attended her first Kids Camp for children run by Diabetes SA. She found this to be an amazing experience which increased her own awareness of the dedication required to self-managing diabetes. The children were so appreciative of the opportunity to experience camp life amongst others who had the same condition. They experienced an independence and acceptance in their new peer group like never before!

She is passionate about increasing awareness of diabetes management for everybody - health professionals, people with diabetes and the general public to improve our population's health, wellbeing and understanding.

Along with her husband, they built a mud brick home in Mannum following solar Adobe principles in 1999. They continue to develop their surroundings planting trees and landscaping. Her hobbies include gardening, cooking, anything crafty and enjoying the River Murray by boating, camping, canoeing and hiking.
