Tax-Appeal-2012

Diabetes continues to affect the lives of many Australians. By 2025, if diabetes continues to rise at its current rate, up to 3 million Australians over the age of 25 years would have developed type 2 diabetes.

Currently there are approximately 1 million Australians diagnosed with diabetes. Baker IDI reported that '10% of all people living with diabetes have type 1' and 'predicted that the occurrence of diagnosed type 1 diabetes will increase by 10% between 2008 and 2013'.

A combination of many factors including genetic, environment and lifestyle, as well as an ageing population increases an individual's risk of developing diabetes.

Diabetes poses a massive challenge to our nations health care system and economy. There is still much more work to be done to continue to improve outcomes and alleviate the burden on individuals, families and the community.

The consequences of a continued rise in the number of people with diabetes may be that the children of today will be the first for many centuries to have a shorter life expectancy than their parents or grandparents.

When diagnosed with diabetes, many people often believe they must make dramatic changes to their lifestyle: entering a world of restrictions, doctors' appointments and medications and their life will change forever.

Diabetes SA are able to provide support and with the right information and education enable people with diabetes to live and achieve their goals.

This financial year alone we have helped many South Australians living with diabetes. Our country visits have seen our health services team reach out and provide valuable education and support in these areas. With the donations provided, we have been able to:

  • conduct an annual kids camp,
  • give a newly diagnosed person with diabetes free access to education sessions,
  • provide telephone support and advice,
  • reach out to country areas to provide valuable education and support,
  • conduct education sessions with expert speakers and,
  • coordinate numerous kids activities providing children with the opportunity to meet other children living with type 1 diabetes.

ALL OF THIS WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN POSSIBLE WITHOUT YOUR SUPPORT!

With over 650 people being diagnosed each month we need your support to enable us to continue supporting people with diabetes, while they live their lives and achieve their dreams.

Our aim this year is to increase the level of support and services provided with your help we can achieve this.

So please help us to help others and donate to the Diabetes SA Tax Appeal today.

Diabetes SA is endorsed as a Deductible Gift Recipient, donations of $2.00 or more are tax deductable. Thank you for your support.
