Breakfast decreases type 2 diabetes risk

Nutritional guidelines have long recommended that people eat breakfast, but there has been little research on the relationship between morning eating habits and development of type 2 diabetes. According to results of a new study, eating breakfast is associated with a decreased chance of developing type 2 diabetes.

Kids Camp 2012

Where: Campers will meet at Mylor Baptist campsite

Mental Health Self Assessment Tool – ‘Minding Diabetes’

Minding Diabetes is now available on-line. This self–assessment tool for emotional health has been developed as part of the 2011–12 Diabetes and Mental Health National Development Program.

Minding Diabetes responds to the psychosocial and mental health needs of adults with type 1 and type 2 diabetes. It is designed to raise awareness about the psychosocial and mental health issues which may arise as a consequence of managing diabetes, and to provide a guide to seek assistance.

Inadequate mental health services for people with diabetes?

Whilst a new analysis of data collected from 2001-2008 shows a decrease in the psychological distress of 50,000 Australians, it found a notable increase in people with diabetes. This was coupled with a decline in the use of antidepressant and anti-anxiety medication which, the authors suggest, could indicate inadequacies in mental health services for those with diabetes.
