2018 National Diabetes Week Seminar – Person-Centred Care

NDW18Diabetes SA brings you a seminar this year for National Diabetes Week that shines a spotlight on the importance of being at the centre of your own care in managing diabetes. At Diabetes SA we support you and your family to live well with diabetes, and we encourage you to be informed and central in your own care.

Person-Centred Care is our National Diabetes Week Seminar theme in 2018 for people living with diabetes. Person-Centred Care is a partnership between consumer and health professionals where communication is non-judgemental, safe and supportive with an aim to address the needs, preferences and values of individuals for optimal wellbeing.

People living with diabetes need person-centred care that promotes wellbeing and individual goal setting that embraces their health beliefs and values for optional self-management.

Increasing your knowledge and understanding diabetes can empower you to be confident in your choices and help you to manage your diabetes and seek the right support.

Come along and listen to three expert speakers assist you to be at the centre of your care by understanding the best evidence about diabetes to support your better health:

The stomach and diabetes — backwards and forwards

Join us to hear Professor Michael Horowitz, leader of the National Health and Medical Research Council, Centre of Research Excellence in Translating Nutritional Science to Good Health share his expert knowledge on the stomach and diabetes.

The good cholesterol increases wound healing in diabetes

Listen to Dr Christina Bursill, Co-Director of the Vascular Research Centre at the South Australian Health and Medical Research and Senior Research Fellow at the University of Adelaide, as she provides the latest evidence on diabetes and wound healing.
