GDM (Gestational Diabetes Mellitus) occurs in at least 5% of all pregnancies. It usually resolves after the birth of the baby. However, one in two women will go on to develop type 2 diabetes in the next ten years. Evidence shows that type 2 diabetes may be prevented or delayed with healthy lifestyle measures. This includes achieving and maintaining a healthy weight, following a healthy eating plan and participating in physical activity.
The session is designed for any woman who has been diagnosed with gestational diabetes in the past, and who would like to learn more about the risk of developing type 2 diabetes and what can be done to reduce this risk.
This session will provide invaluable information regarding nutrition and physical activity. It will address the importance of a healthy lifestyle for the whole family. The session will provide plenty of tips that can be adopted for the busy mother and family.
The session is conducted by a diabetes educator and a dietitian.
