How to apply for a vacancy at Diabetes SA

The following information will help you with your application.

Preparing Your Application

Writing an effective application is one of the keys to getting the job you want.

The advertisement and job description will describe the key aspects of the position and the skills required to effectively perform the job. To prepare an effective application, you should read the job advertisement carefully and match it to your resume to clearly determine whether you possess the required skills and knowledge to apply:

Your application should consist of two things:

  1. A covering letter clearly addressing how you meet each of the selection criteria. It may be useful to include examples of how your past experience or qualifications will assist you in being successful within the role. Four to eight lines per criterion is usually sufficient.
  2. A resume outlining your work experience, a summary of educational background and any professional development, and your daytime telephone number. You may supply the names of referees who are able to comment on your work performance on your resume, or, if you are successful in gaining an interview, you may supply these names at that time.

Further Information

If you require further information about the position or salary, please call the person nominated in the advertisement.

Lodgement of Application

Applications may be lodged in one of three ways:

  • send by post to the address in the advertisement
  • by facsimile (08) 8234 2013
  • by email as specified in the advertisement.

Review of Applications

Following the closing date, all applications will be passed to the selection committee and a shortlist of applicants for interview will be agreed. The selection process at Diabetes SA is based on how well each candidate meets the advertised selection criteria and the background of each applicant and a 'best fit' with the Associations culture and values. A shortlist of candidates for phone interview is then developed.

Interviews

Pending the out come of the phone interview process, short listed applicants will be contacted by telephone and interview times agreed. This should usually happen within 2 weeks of the closing date. If you are not successful in gaining an interview, you will not be notified until interviews are completed and a decision has been made. At this time, all unsuccessful applicants will be notified in writing.

Selection

All short listed applicants will be asked a similar set of questions which are derived from the selection criteria. Selection of the successful applicant is based on the written application, responses to questions at interview and referee reports. The successful applicant will then be offered the position. All employees who commence with Diabetes SA are required to provide a current Police Clearance Certificate, the cost of which will be reimbursed to the employees upon commencement.
