Each year over 7,000 South Australians are diagnosed with type 2 diabetes – the sixth highest cause of death in Australia.More frightening is that for every person diagnosed, we estimate that there is another that goes undiagnosed.
If not properly managed, diabetes can lead to severe complications such as heart disease, blindness, kidney failure and amputations. Part of our mandate is for the education of people with diabetes so they do not suffer these debilitating complications. It costs the Association approximately $28,000 per year to conduct a basic education program.
Just as important to us is the ongoing research for a cure which is why we donate a portion of our income each year into supporting research programs conducted in Australia.
We conduct two Appeals each year – the Tax appeal and Christmas appeal. The monies raised go towards supporting specific programs aimed at education, public awareness and ongoing research for a cure.
All donations over $2 are tax deductible.
